on the general public’s ears courtesy of Ninja Tune (date for your diary - 2nd April, folks), we’re going to take you back here at bosbos.net, way back.. to 1997. Ahh yes, a more innocent time when the only way to get your Solid Steel fix was by hooking up with a friendly Londoner with a strong resolve to stay up late to record all those great shows on to, deep breath, cassette! Many of these mixes have lived on via the Internet, with resourceful types transferring plenty of past shows from one magnetic medium to another. You might just see some of those appear here in good time, but for now we’ll get the ball rolling with Strictly Kev’s ‘Dark Star’ mix.

Utilising some choice soundtrack and sample lifts from 1974’s Dark Star (ask your dad), it’s a lucid wander through some ambient soundscapes, with plenty of electronic blips and bleeps thrown in. Recognisable late-90’s names of note such as Beck, Air and Spiritualised make an appearance, rounding up a mix that wouldn’t sound too out of place on an astronaut spacewalk.
